Tuna Tostada

One of my husband’s coworkers loves fishing, but the funny thing is he doesn’t like to eat it. So every time he catches something, he shares it with his team. It is lucky us because we get to eat fresh tuna every once a while for free. Fresh tuna is so delicious, that it is easy to find ways to incorporate it in our meals.

In my house we eat tostadas quite frequently. Honestly, it is really hard to go wrong with a fried tortilla. However, this tostada is special. The tuna is smoky, which is a perfect flavor with the avocado, leek, and lemon.

I can’t wait to get more tuna to make this again!

  • 1 Lb of Fresh Bluefin Tuna (Shashimi)

  • 1 Tbs of Olive Oil

  • 1/4 Cup of Soy Sauce

  • 1/4 Fresh Orange Juice

  • 2 Cups of Vegetable Oil

  • 8 Tostadas or Stale Corn Tortillas

  • 1 Leek (Sliced, washed, and completely dried. Separate White Rings From The Green Leaves )

  • 2 Tbs of Chipotle Mayo

  • 1 Avocado (Sliced to garnish)

  • Finishing Salt (To Taste)

  • Lime Wedges (Garnish)

  • Marinate the fresh bluefin tuna for 30 minutes with olive oil, soy sauce, and fresh orange juice.
  • In a deep skillet warm up the vegetable oil to 300℉ . Make sure to verify the temperature of the oil. Frying leek in the wrong temperature can make them bitter.
  • Fry the white part of the leek until light gold. Move the leek to make sure they are evenly gold and not burnt.Drain fried leek in a paper towel.
  • Use the same oil to fried the stale corn tortillas about 2 minutes each side. Drain fried tortilla. You can skip this step if you are using store bought tostadas.
  • Once the tortillas are not too hot, spread the chipotle mayo on the tostadas. On top of the chipotle mayo add the marinated bluefin tuna, leeks, avocado, finishing salt, and lime.

ooooh This is such a great idea. I seared a tuna steak for my 80-yo Mom a couple weeks ago and put it over a salad, she had never had it fresh. That blew my mind …. haha Mad jealous of your fish hook-up!
