Chai Tea Yogurt

I tried making yogurt in the sous vide and it turned out AMAZING! It only takes 12hrs to cook, which is not too bad because you can make in the afternoon and then have fresh yogurt in the morning. What I love about making my own yogurt is that I can make it lactose-free, and sugar-free. Which makes this yogurt ULTRA healthy. Also, it is hard for me to find lactose-free yogurt made with real milk (also this is significantly cheaper). I have to say that this yogurt tastes better than any almond/soy yogurt that I had to try in the past and it doesn’t hurt my belly.

You can also make as many flavors as you can imagine. Here I flavored mine with Chai tea, but you could do matcha or anything else. I encourage you to try this recipe. You will be amazed how easy is to have the fanciest and healthy yogurt every day.


  • 3 cups Milk

  • 2 1/2 Tbsp Activite Culture Yogurt

  • 2 Chai Tea, Tea Bags

  • 1/8 tsp Vanilla extract

  • Dash of Cinnamon (or to taste)

  • 1 tsp of honey ( or to taste)


  • Measure out 3 cups of milk into a saucepan.
  • Add the Chai Tea bags to the saucepan. (If you want plain yogurt, you can skip this step)
  • Heat the milk to a temperature of 180 F or above. It can go over 180 degrees, but just ensure to stir while heating so the milk doesn’t burn.
  • Once the milk has reached 180 F, remove it from the heat. Let the milk cool until it is below 110 F. You can do this quickly by placing the pan into an ice bath.
  • While the milk is cooling heat pre-heat your sous vide to 109 F.
  • Once the milk has reached 110F you can remove the chai tea bags, and stir in your yogurt. (Pretty cool that Yogurt makes yogurt!)
  • Transfer the mixture to a mason jar and place the mason jar in the sous vide for 12 to 24 hours.
  • After 12 hours you should have a nice creamy and tangy yogurt. To thicken the yogurt more and to prevent a separation effect you can drain the whey from the yogurt using a colander and coffee filters.
  • To serve I typically divide the yogurt 3/4 ~1 cup servings. I then add a dash of cinnamon, 1/8 tsp of vanilla, and 1 tsp of honey, but you can dress it up to your taste.
